Edward L. Allen
Edward Allen’s commanding presence in the courtroom makes him a formidable opponent in traumatic brain injury cases. With more than twenty years of experience, he has developed an exceptional ability to communicate with a jury. He carefully explains the complexities of a brain injury in a way that motivates jurors to bring back a substantial verdict in his client’s favor. The legal community has acknowledged Edward’s accomplishments as a trial attorney, a fact attested to by his inclusion in the nationally recognized publication Best Lawyers of America.
It can be difficult to demonstrate to jurors how a subtle brain injury, one that may go undetected for months, can have an enormous impact on someone’s everyday life. To make matters worse, the brain injured person may lack insight into his own neurological deficiencies and be unable to describe them.
Understanding this problem, Edward seeks input from a spouse or other family members to determine the scope of a client’s impairment. At trial, he may put relatives on the witness stand and ask them to give jurors a vivid picture of the challenges the injured person faces as he struggles to cope with his brain injury both at work and at home.
The financial losses associated with a serious brain injury can be substantial. The negligent party responsible for the brain injury may not have liability insurance coverage that is sufficient to pay for the injured party’s medical bills, wage loss, pain, and suffering. Edward meets this challenge head on, undertaking a comprehensive search for additional sources of insurance coverage. He is unwaivering in his determination to pursue every avenue of potential monetary recovery for his clients.
Service to the bar is important to Edward who often participates as a speaker and faculty member in bar sponsored continuing legal education activities. He is President-Elect of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and serves as a member of its Executive Committee and Board of Governors. He is a former chair of the organization’s Young Lawyers Section. Edward is also a founding board and faculty member of the Virginia College of Advocacy. He is a member of the Virginia Brain Injury Association.
